The Assistant Public Art Administrator: Responsible for supporting Metro Transit's Public Art Program in coordination with the Public Art Administrator, through full-performance technical professional duties. These include managing the full lifecycle of artworks (planning, design, construction, and maintenance) and overseeing conservation and maintenance projects for Metro Transit's public art collection, which consists of 82 permanent artworks comprising 420 individual pieces.
What you would do in this job
1. Manage conservation and maintenance projects on public art collection:
Prioritize conservation and maintenance projects in coordination with Public Arts Administrator.
Manage vendor contracts for public art conservation projects. Request estimates, certificates of insurance, other documentation from vendors. Create requisitions and purchase orders. Coordinate treatments by professional conservators, if needed, provide rail safety at rail adjacent locations.
Work with artists and vendors to coordinate removal and installation of works
Work with Facilities Maintenance to identify and coordinate their responsibilities around public art at each location
2. Manage public art records:
Document, inventory and assess the condition of the Council's art collection annually
Develop maintenance plans and maintain treatment records for all artworks
3. Coordinate public art tours
Plan, promote and co-lead annual public art tours in coordination with Outreach and Engagement team and interns
4. Manage Bus Shelter Beautification program:
Solicit Artist Submittals for art clings to be installed on bus shelters on a recurring basis
Organize Selection Panel to choose designs
Issue and supervise contracts with selected artists
Coordinate printing, installing and removals of art clings
What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)
Any of the following
combinations of experience in long-term conservation and maintenance of public artworks, particularly in the context of public transit facilities AND completed education in Art Conservation, Fine Art, Art History or closely related field.
High school diploma/GED with seven (7) years of experience
Associate degree with five (5) years of experience
Bachelor's degree with three (3) years of experience
Master's degree with one (1) year of experience
Licensures Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of art fabrication techniques, materials, processes and vendors.
Knowledge of current principles and practices of public art and conservation programs locally and nationally
Ability to bridge the artistic and public sector worlds
Intermediate to advanced skills with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop and SharePoint for the purpose of writing reports, developing business correspondence, creating fabrication documents and standard operating procedures.
Strong collaboration skills for the purpose of building, developing, and maintaining effective collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners, and stakeholders.
Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills with a customer-oriented approach.
Excellent organizational/administrative skills to effectively prioritize work, meet deadlines, and deliver results.
Skill in presenting information and responding to questions from groups of internal and external customers.
Demonstrated teamwork skills and multicultural sensitivity awareness.
Ability to recommend improvements in procedures for efficiency and to ensure work is done accurately.
Ability to analyze and understand prices, estimates, and forecasted costs of products/services.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and progress reports.
