Overview Senior Accountant
Parsippany, NJ, Detroit, MI, OR Orlando, FL (hybrid)
Summary: Assists with the preparation of the monthly financial statements and operations reporting. Processes must follow Pella Corporate guidelines and policies and must be consistent across all Sales Subsidiary Branches. Responsible for analysis of monthly activity and trends to support the operating business plans. Will review, research and explain variances to budget and forecasts utilizing complex financial models. Special projects and other duties as assigned based on business need.
Responsibilities Prepare the monthly financial statements for multiple branches.
Execute month-end close procedures and reporting. Maintain knowledge of accounting and operations software, understand the PDSN closing procedure, and ensure consistency with other subsidiaries and/or PDSNs.
Identify and research budget variances on monthly financial statements and report findings to management.
Develop financial models to support underlying business activity.
Manage monthly cyclical activities to support month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and tax returns; prepare and input journal entries.
Prepare monthly reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Compare financial statements to other subsidiaries for consistent accounting treatment.
Analyze material costs, GL variances to perpetual inventory records and scrap; identify risks and recommend process improvements.
Support physical inventory calculations in assigned branches.
Assist with planning and coordination of year-end audits and the preparation of annual financial statements.
Maintain and update general ledger accounts in appropriate financial systems.
Collaborate with team members to drive overall business improvements.
Promote and facilitate continuous improvement across sales subsidiaries.
Support development and maintenance of internal accounting controls.
Coordinate activities with other managers as needed.
Handle special projects as assigned.
Qualifications Education, Experience : BS/BA in Accounting or related field with 3?5 years of experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA/CGA/CMA preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access). Ability to develop proficiency in Pella proprietary software (e.g., PDQ, POETS, OMS) and other accounting/financial reporting systems. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment and prioritize responsibilities.
Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written English; strong public relations, public speaking, instructional/teaching, and customer service skills. Ability to read, interpret and explain processes and company reports; effectively present information, gather information, and respond to questions. Strong listening, assessment, and decision-making abilities. Professional phone and email etiquette and a professional demeanor.
Professional Skills : Team player with a proactive mindset, strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow projects through to completion. Attention to administrative detail, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to build trust with employees and managers. Mathematical Skills : Ability to compile and interpret financial data, calculate figures and percentages, and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts. Capable of applying advanced mathematical operations for analysis and problem solving. Able to work independently and make objective decisions, exercising sound judgment.
Physical Demands The role requires typical office activities, including sitting, typing, and using a computer. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable essential functions.
Travel Moderate travel required (approximately 20% to 25%).
Work Environment Primary work location designated at hire. Work may occur at multiple locations, including warehouses and trade shows. Some duties may be performed remotely at times. Noise level is generally low to moderate in administrative areas and moderate in warehouse settings.
