Position Description
Solutions Engineers at Okta are involved in all stages of the customer's development lifecycle and use presentations, email, phone and social media to connect with customers. We are looking for teammates who can build sales presentations, product demonstrations, and educate customers (from developers to product managers to C-level executives) on the best ways to cloud security technology. Okta Solutions Engineers empathize with customers and quickly discern their true technical needs by asking detailed questions and presenting solutions that target those needs. You have a rare combination of technical savviness and business insight and a desire for a career that utilizes both. As a Senior Solutions Engineer at Okta, you will advise a diverse set of Fortune 500 customers on what is possible using Okta\'s Identity Platform.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with account executives to develop and execute territory and account strategies to maximize the Okta opportunity in those accounts
Conduct research and discovery to understand customer requirements and communicate the business value of solving technology problems using cloud technology
Deliver POCs for customers with complex use cases, collaborating with other Okta engineering teams as needed
Craft technical content to show customers how to implement specific use cases or standard methodologies for new technologies
Prepare and deliver demos to showcase how the Okta platform meets customer business needs and use cases
Distill and communicate customer needs and product feedback to Product Management, Engineering, Marketing and Sales
Required Skills / Qualifications
5+ years pre-sales engineering experience
A passion to serve the customer, demonstrated in a customer-facing role (e.g., consulting or support), ideally in solutions engineering
Ability to quickly and effectively communicate complex technical concepts via presentations, slides and whiteboard
Strong Understanding of Identity & Access Management (IAM): SSO, MFA, SCIM, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, LDAP; lifecycle management, RBAC, provisioning/deprovisioning
Understanding of Zero Trust Architecture and core security concerns within typical applications (password hashing, SSL/TLS, encryption at rest, XSS, XSRF)
Hands-on experience in web/mobile/backend development or IP-based real-time communications is a plus
Experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP
Elite communicator who can map and manage multiple personas: IT admins, CISOs, architects, procurement, and legal
Confident dispensing knowledge to a highly skilled audience
Typically 10-25% travel
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS or a comparable field preferred
Travel and Education
This role requires in-person onboarding and travel to our San Francisco, CA HQ office during the first week of employment
Compensation
The OTE range for this position varies by location:
San Francisco Bay Area (OTE): $215,000 — $323,000 USD
California, Colorado, New York, and Washington (OTE): $192,000 — $288,000 USD
Note: The annual OTE includes base salary and incentive compensation. Okta offers equity (where applicable) and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave in accordance with applicable plans and policies.
