The Bridge (Capital Region Community Media) is a mission-driven nonprofit local news organization, governed by a Board of Directors and managed by a staff of three full-time and two part-time employees. We are known for our comprehensive and compelling coverage of issues and events in central Vermont. Within our pages you can engage with political and business leaders, investigate the region’s most important issues, share perspectives with neighbors, weigh the big decisions to come, and celebrate local achievements. At a time when our democracy is being challenged and the social fabric of our communities is being strained, The Bridge is leading with reporting that helps people come to know each other, to build trust and respect, and to discover, report and engage diverse perspectives to nurture and enhance the future of our community. We distribute 11,000 newspapers every two weeks, free of charge, to every address in Montpelier via the U.S. Postal Service and at pick-up locations throughout central Vermont. Our digital newsletter is distributed twice weekly and we have a daily presence on social media. Our website at montopelierbridge.com is visited by over 170,000 unique users annually and growing, with an increase of 70,000 unique users from 2023 to 2024. The Bridge is supported in part by generous financial gifts from over 1,000 donors annually. Our FY25 budget is $445,000. Your Job We are seeking an entrepreneurial professional with sales and marketing expertise who will work closely with our staff team to take The Bridge to the next level of earned and contributed revenue. The Advertising Sales Specialist will play a major role in helping to design and execute The Bridge’s advertising campaigns and strengthen local news by expanding our advertising base. This includes direct sales to our established and extensive customer list to develop and provide opportunities for businesses, organizations, and community members to connect their message into The Bridge network. Key goals for this position Develop and implement innovative strategies to increase print and digital advertising and contributed revenue. Expand the number and diversity of businesses, organizations, and individuals that engage with our work and mission, so we are serving people from all walks of life, representing the full breadth of our community. The ideal candidates will have most or all of the following skills and experience: A self-starter with excellent organizational skills and a creative, solutions-oriented approach to sales and marketing. Strong task and time management skills, including short and long-range planning and execution. Successful track record of selling advertising. Experience in media or news organizations. Adept at using Google Drive and Google Ad Manager (will train the right candidate) Comfortable using customer relationship management systems. Compensation: For this 32-hour position compensation starts with a base pay of $20 per hour, plus a tiered commission structure as follows: Ramp-up period/$0-$25,000 in sales 5% commission $25,000 – $75,000 in sales 10% commission $75,000 – $150,000 in sales 15% commission Over $150,000 in sales 22% commission Projected annual sales target is $185,000 Location: Remote and in person, based in Montpelier. A minimum of two days per week in person.
