We are searching for a Associate Designer, Knits, to join this amazing team. This position reports directly to the Senior Design Director and is primarily responsible for assisting with designing, developing, selecting and approving materials, trims, silhouettes, colors and patterns. You enjoy how it all comes together and seeing what people buy. The Associate Designer should be an energetic collaborator with an adaptable communication style and a passion for continuous improvement. The role will support the design department and be a key participant in the growth of the Boston Proper brand. A strong candidate for this role is self-motivated, adaptable to creative feedback and has a passion for product design concepts and development for the customer.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with Senior Design Director on development and execution of product designs that achieve overall product strategy and merchandise objectives
Participate in research and development of seasonal trends/assist in interpreting season fashion direction, assortment opportunities and merchandise trends
Produce cohesive product presentations including boards, tear sheets and samples to help sell concepts to merchants
Prepare line and presentation materials for strategy reviews including color/ concept boards
Ensure designs meet merchant line plans, assortment strategies and overall creative concept direction
Partner with trend & merchandising in set up and presenting seasonal development
Interpret specific color palettes, patterns and prints for the season into the appropriate bodies, engineer patterns when necessary
Select and approve style, materials, trims and colors that fit into the program and style plans. Insure color matching of base fabrics & trims
Work with product development & sourcing to create and distribute fabric development packages
Develop flat sketches (as needed) for design development package request, development samples to create seasonal line sheets
Create styles with attributes into PLM
Compile design development packages and work with technical design to get specs and details, review development samples for correct execution and attend fit sessions to ensure integrity of design combines with proper fit for production
Knit experience preferred
Other responsibilities as needed
Experience/Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in design
2+ years of fashion industry experience
Strong color and print sense; ability to view and differentiate the color spectrum
Demonstrated creative ability with sketching, photoshop and illustrator
Proven ability to create development tech packs/design layouts
Proficiency in computer applications, MS office and Excel
Presentation and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines
