Director of Sales (Outside Sales)

The Director of Sales reports to the Vice President of Sales and manages the execution of sales plans and initiatives. The Director of Sales' priorities are sales growth, strategic planning, tactical support, problem resolution, and employee development. The Director of Sales will lead assigned IPS divisions and will directly manage Division Sales Managers, Sales Managers, or other Managers as assigned by the Vice President of Sales.
Responsibilities
Develop annual sales plans in support of organizational strategy and objectives that ensure attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
Assist the DSMs with the development and implementation of sales policies and practices (i.e., SMART goals, new accounts, new line items, cold calling expectations, time in the office, attendance, KPIs, and make sure we are calling on all the large companies in their respective territories).
Develop and manage sales operating budgets for assigned divisions.
Leverage technology to conduct analysis and assist with problem resolution.
Establish and manage relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
Recommend sales strategies for improvement based on market research and competitor analysis.
Meet with key customers, assist Managers and Sales Representatives with maintaining relationships, negotiations, problem resolution, and closing new business.
Prepare periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client expansion.
Assist managers, as required, with branch duties. Examples include: resolving AR issues, clearing deadstock, creating stocking programs, event coordination, proofreading, reviewing financial statements, etc.
Maintain a close working relationship with Managers of other departments, such as Operations, Procurement, Accounting, Human Resources, and Customer Service.
Ensure that the company meets customer quality and performance expectations, pricing and terms, and delivery commitments to maintain customer goodwill.
Communicate company policies, procedures, and ethics codes to direct reports and adhere to them personally.
Monitor market and competitor activity and provide feedback to company leadership and other managers.
Continually evaluate the performance of assigned Managers and work towards alignment between Equipment, Engineering, and all sales support staff.
Counsels direct reports for improved performance against budget and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Coordinate with counterparts from suppliers / vendors to align sales strategies and plan training events.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, delegating, directing work, performance appraisals, rewards and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
10 or more years of management experience
10 or more years of business-to-business sales experience
PC proficient in Windows-based programs and the internet
Strong expertise with PowerPoint and Excel
Essential Skills and Experience
The ability to deal with a variety of customers, both internal and external, in a tactful manner.
Strong interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.
Business-to-business sales experience in packaging, industrial products, or distribution.
Prior experience with CRM used to manage sales territories.
Analytical skills using data from a variety of sources
Ability to travel to multiple branches in various states
