Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the employee operates a gift shop/kiosk at one of the locations throughout the AMAG complex. The employee performs retail sales and membership sales, orders, and maintains inventory, and organizes merchandise displays. The employee also assists with plant sales at the Longleaf Botanical Gardens (LBG). Employee coordinates purchases and maintains a perpetual inventory of merchandise. Employee is charged with maintaining prices and profitable relationships with vendors. The employee may also be cross trained to work the reception or front desk of the AMAG. Work is performed under established procedures and employee exercises judgment in completing work. This job is considered security-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Customer Service. Employee assists guests and patrons and ensures a positive experience for the customer. Greet customers. Performs the functions of cashier, collecting and receipting payment for merchandise. Bags or wraps customer's purchases. Answers questions concerning merchandise from customers. Reconciles the cash drawer at the end of the day and ensures monies are properly secured. Sells AMAG memberships; enters new member into the computer and sends a membership welcome package.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Gift Shop Operations. Performs duties related to the effective and efficient operation of the Gift Shops in the AMAG. Assists with general cleaning of Gift Shop merchandise. Prepares merchandise displays that appeal to customers. Conducts periodic inventories of Gift Shop merchandise, verifying actual count to computer inventory records. Develops merchandise orders to replenish inventory and obtain new items. Receives and processes new merchandise orders, inputs into computer inventory. Develops a working knowledge of background information on Gift Shop merchandise. Develops a working knowledge about Museum policies, programs, and exhibits. Assists with the LBG plant sales; coordinates reservations, collects monies.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Assists with front desk and reception coverage when necessary. Assists with special events and programs. Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: Possess a high school diploma or GED. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in retail or cash sales. Possess a current and valid driver's license; must be insurable. Ability to work non-standard hours. Ability to travel. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; recurring lifting moderately heavy items such as record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
