Position Summary
We are seeking a results-oriented Business Development Managers (BDM) to lead regional growth initiatives by originating, developing, and closing new business opportunities. This is a hunter role, requiring strong technical credibility, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to develop long-term customer relationships while driving revenue growth.
The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and excels at selling technically complex solutions to industrial and commercial clients.
Position Responsibilities
New Business Origination: Proactively identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities within assigned regions. Build and manage a robust pipeline of qualified prospects.
Consultative, Technical Selling: Understand and translate customer needs into tailored technical solutions. Communicate technical value propositions with clarity and credibility to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Territory & Account Strategy: Create and execute strategic sales plans that drive revenue and expand market presence. Align business development efforts with Heartland’s go-to-market strategy.
Industry Insight: Maintain deep understanding of the competitive landscape, customer trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies within the environmental, water, and waste management sectors.
CRM & Sales Process Management: Use CRM tools and sales data to manage pipeline, forecast revenue, and track performance. Drive prospects through the full sales cycle to signed contract and successful implementation.
Contract Negotiation: Lead customer contract discussions in collaboration with legal, technical, and operations teams to ensure alignment and successful project launch.
Brand Representation: Represent Heartland at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings to promote brand awareness and thought leadership.
Skillset Requirements
Industry Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of successful technical sales experience in industrial water treatment, environmental services, or related sectors.
Technical Aptitude: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related technical field preferred.
Sales Hunter Mentality: Demonstrated ability to generate new leads, open doors, and close complex deals with long sales cycles.
Relationship Builder: Proven success building and maintaining relationships with senior decision-makers in target industries.
Strong Communicator: Excellent presentation, negotiation, and written communication skills.
Self-Starter: Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable operating independently in a remote or field-based capacity.
Travel Ready: Willing and able to travel 40%+; must reside within reasonable distance of a major airport.
