Research Laboratory Technician (up to) Associate Scientist

New Today

Overview Our client is a biotechnology company that uses a proprietary process to turn somatic cells into totipotent cells, and then to any cell or tissue, faster, more reliably, more efficiently, and with none of the challenges of alternative methods. Products developed using the Mygotic ProcessTM hold enormous potential to revolutionize cell and gene therapies, food and water testing, and regenerative medicine. These new products will open new markets and enable safer drugs, other products, and consumables for humans and animals.
Our client is looking to hire a Research Laboratory Technician/Associate Scientist with 2 to 5 years of cell culture and laboratory experience, extracting and working with DNA, RNA, and proteins, and implementing molecular biology techniques as an independent contractor. The candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment on short- and long-term laboratory assignments with various scientific complexities. The potential candidate is expected to be motivated and efficient when working in a challenging and highly rewarding research environment. They will be responsible for the performance of operations in support of starting/establishing, growth, and production of nave stem cells, hESCs, iPSCs, and differentiated cells from tissue samples under GLP and GMP conditions and other industrial and federal regulations as required. These functions may include expansion and maintenance of ESCs, propagation and differentiation of ESCs into other cell lines in culture flasks and bioreactors (2L - 10L) using aseptic techniques, cryopreservation of cells, preparation of media and reagents, filtration, inventory management, microscopy techniques, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing reports. Other laboratory assignments may include protein analysis using SDS-PAGE and activity gels, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, fluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry assays, and DNA and RNA analysis using RT-PCR and qPCR, and sequencing (RNA-Seq). Routine activities may include performing basic pH measurements and preparing chemical reagents at specific molar concentrations. The candidate is expected to be able to work independently and as part of a team, summarize and present data at a professional level, as well as suggest creative ways to troubleshoot the issues encountered or provide alternatives.
Responsibilities Interact and communicate effectively with supervisor and other site personnel. Assist in the preparation and analysis of laboratory experiments, as requested. Perform advanced cell culture techniques, including 2D and 3D cell culturing, media formulation and preparation, cell passaging, counting, and staining, cryopreservation, maintenance, and monitoring of cell cultures, ensure optimal growth conditions, and other related bioassays of cell cultures. Perform molecular biology techniques, such as cell/protein characterization, protein/DNA/RNA extraction and purification, western blotting, RT-PCR, qPCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, bioanalytical and immunoassays, and read/analyze data. Experience in protein/antibody purification using columns or FPLC is desirable. Perform preliminary research, information gathering, and information packaging. Collect diverse data, document, and present it professionally to senior management. Assist the laboratory team in the design and execution of experiments, optimization of protocols, and the collection of data and data input. Document all lab procedures, correspondence, and communication pertinent to the research. Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety and infection control procedures. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining all laboratories and equipment. Assist with receipt and inspection of raw materials, lab ordering and stocking, as requested. Process and ship all samples according to regulations and protocol requirements. Maintain and update files, SOPs, protocols and all applicable regulatory documentation. Self-motivated and detail-oriented with a proven ability to learn quickly.
Qualifications 2-5 years of relevant experience in a BSL-2 biomedical, biotechnology, or research laboratory. 2+ years of expansion and maintenance of hESCs and iPSCs in cell culture. Experience differentiating ESCs into other cell lines is a plus. Proficient in molecular biology techniques, including DNA, RNA, and Protein extraction, purification, and analysis, as well as cell characterization. Knowledge of endotoxin testing would be highly valued. Demonstrate competence and professionalism in oral and written communication. Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor. Must be flexible with changing priorities and adaptable in a dynamic research environment. Computer skills - at least intermediate level experience with Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office Software, including analysis software such as FlowJo.
