As a Sales Tax Manager, you will: Interact with partners, senior managers, staff, and clients to provide compliance expertise; Contribute to practice development and business development activities; Supervise and develop staff on a firm-wide basis. Specific duties include: Oversee a wide variety of sales tax projects as the lead Manager; Accept responsibility for, and complete tasks assigned by firm’s Senior Managers/Directors; Make effective use of firm resources to complete projects; Manage multiple client projects at any given time; Alert SALT Partner of issues, constraints, challenges, and scheduling conflicts in a timely manner; Develop professional relationships with firm partners and managers by delivering excellent client service, quality work products, and professional integrity; Manage client and partner expectations and keep engagement progress and logistics fully informed; Prepare and organize engagement work papers and files. Implementation of SALT Initiatives Assist SALT Leadership in identifying efficiency-based SALT initiatives to implement throughout the practice; Identify clients that may benefit from Sales Tax services; assist with development and implementation of external marketing programs; Provide technical support and/or project management for SALT initiatives. Communication of SALT Developments Stay current on significant developments and new legislation within multi-state taxation; Prepare written summaries of significant developments for newsletters and website postings; Follow up with internal/external communications when developments may impact clients. Staff Supervision Take responsibility for subordinates’ activities and chargeability; delegate and manage work effectively; Develop team processes and systems to improve productivity and growth; Provide regular performance feedback and evaluations; Develop subordinates’ technical and industry skills and gain the respect of partners through clear direction. Personal and Professional Development Develop trust and respect with clients and colleagues; continue expanding Sales Tax knowledge; Understand all tax, audit, and consulting services offered by the firm and relate this to client needs; Demonstrate initiative, vision, resourcefulness, and independent thinking; Develop networking and professional development through public speaking, seminars, and article writing; Engage in Cherry Bekaert internal and external programs, including staff training courses. What you bring to the role: Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s business degree; CPA or CMI is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of progressive State and Local Tax compliance experience in a Big 4, large regional public accounting firm, or industry with multi-state responsibility. Experience with Sales Tax technology platforms including Avalara and Shopify. Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel; Alteryx is a plus. Solid organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
