Sales & Use Tax Specialist

We are seeking a temporary Sales & Use Tax Specialist/Accountant. This role is responsible for managing the companys sales and use tax compliance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all filings, and supporting tax-related audits. The ideal candidate will have strong technical tax knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. Responsibilities Prepare, file, and remit sales and use tax returns across multiple states and jurisdictions. Monitor changes in state and local tax laws to ensure compliance and implement necessary process updates. Research and resolve tax issues, including exemption certificate management and nexus considerations. Assist with tax audits, including gathering documentation, preparing responses, and liaising with auditors. Reconcile sales and use tax accounts monthly and ensure accurate general ledger postings. Support tax planning initiatives and process improvements to minimize risk and exposure. Collaborate with AP, AR, and procurement teams to ensure correct tax treatment on invoices and purchases. Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on sales and use tax matters. Assist with other accounting duties as needed, including month-end close and reporting.
Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 3+ years of experience in sales and use tax accounting, preferably in a multi-state environment. Strong knowledge of sales and use tax regulations, compliance requirements, and exemption processes. Experience with tax software and ERP systems (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
