Job Summary
Oversee and maintain the Fashion Institute labs and classrooms at South City Campuses of Salt Lake Community College.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Keep labs and classrooms organized (removing scraps, fabrics, paper left on tables)
Keep the sewing machines in working condition making sure they have needles, correct thread, feed dogs are up and stitches put back on neutral
Make sure there are feet on machines and that they are in working condition
Make sure all sergers are threaded correctly and that the stitches are correct and remove industrial thread from the sergers
Make sure all sergers are back in their neutral position and replace missing or broken needles
Keep sergers in their places on the table and lock up all foot pedals for sergers
Put serger thread back in the cupboard
Maintain the iron with water, removing burned materials from surface, etc.
Keep irons full of water and the cords untangled
Replace the fabric on iron table when needed
Manage "lost and found" tools
Put chairs and dress forms back in place
Keep all irons cleaned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to assemble, service and maintain clothing production equipment and machines
Ability to perform basic janitorial duties
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Minimum qualifications Work-Study eligible
Current student of Salt Lake Community College
Preferred Qualifications Current or past student of the Fashion program who has taken and successfully finished all the construction classes
Proficient at using and maintaining all types of sewing machines used within the Fashion program
Good communication skills
Student should not be enrolled in the Collection classes during the semesters they are working as a --Specialist
